Terrain Update | 12/03/21 | Currently Arizona Snowbowl has 3/8 lifts operating, 6/48 trails open, and their beginner terrain park located off of Round Up trail.
Skiing and snowboarding is back in Arizona for the 21/22 season at last! It\’s been a difficult start to the season with incredibly warm temperatures but somehow they managed to pull off a great opening early on.
This is my first season in Arizona and I\’ve never had the chance to ride Snowbowl prior. I\’ve lived in Summit County for years and have had many opportunities to ride \”world-class\” resorts around the world and wasn\’t sure what to expect. The first time I pulled up to Snowbowl, I was expecting some sort of midwest-esque ski resort, after all it is in the middle of Arizona… I was wrong. The mountain has roughly 2300\’ of vertical, 8 lifts, 55 trails, and the largest learning terrain in the southwest.
What to expect in the early season.
On opening day and throughout the past week the temperatures have remained in the 50\’s with spring-like conditions throughout the mountain. The snow is soft and playful, however, expect variable conditions throughout the day.
Terrain Status –
The majority of the terrain available is labeled as intermediate with access to expert terrain via the Arizona Gondola. Despite the warm weather, Snowbowl has also managed to open up their Grand Canyon Express lift which services to the mid-mountain and bypasses the expert terrain of Upper Ridge and provides access to intermediate terrain only.
If you are a beginner and are eager to enjoy the slopes the Little Spruce Conveyer is open and offers access to beginner terrain only.
Even with the lack of snow and temperatures to assist snowmaking, I\’m incredibly impressed with the length of the runs and snow quality. The warm temperatures are an added bonus and if you enjoy spring skiing, now is the time to get your spring fix in early season.
